Pre Karate (3.5, 4 and 5)

Pre-Karate at Academy of Koei-Kan Karate-Do

The Bellevue Karate Kids program at the Academy of Koei-Kan Karate-Do offers Pre-karate for children age 3. 5 years through 5. 5 years who are interested in learning martial arts and have not begun kindergarten.

Classes offer children the opportunity to start learning foundational skills needed for karate, while having fun and being part of the martial arts community.

The early learning program focuses on gross motor skills that propel children to lead an active lifestyle. They engage new emotional, intellectual and behavioral skills through guided group classes. Parents find that our program helps enrich skills children need to get ready for entering Kindergarten.

The three main areas of focus

  • Physical Activity
  • Social Learning and Executive Function
  • Academics

Physical activity is promoted, providing an outlet for a young child’s energy and giving them an active start. Young students are encouraged to develop basic competency in fundamental motor skills for games, sports, and lifetime physical activity. Social Learning and executive function controls are emerging. Young students are provided with opportunity to manage attention, emotions and behavior in a group environment. To learn more about executive function, we encourage parents to visit Mindinthemaking.org. Academics are encourage through movement activities and martial arts culture. Classes provide reinforcements in understanding  areas such as, math, science, and language.

Youth Karate (ages 5-12 years)

Are you looking to help your child build physically active habits that keep them learning?  Would you like them to meet mental and emotional challenges head on and to become part of a socially encouraging environment?  Our program focuses on inspiring each student to stay on the move and to “think” on their feet. Bellevue Karate Kids learn through a dynamic approach to karate and earn stripes and new belts as they grow. We see our youth improve their communication skills and increase self-esteem. We encourage skills in creative thinking, imagination and innovation. Confidence is built through meeting challenges, taking calculated risk, learning from mistakes and gaining success through consistency and hard work. Parents report measurable improvement in their child’s self-discipline, self-control, self-respect & self-confidence as well as, physical fitness, agility and coordination. We help steer youth to learn practical skills and useful tools to heighten awareness around safety, self-preservation and perseverance. Youth find the ability to increase focus and understand the benefits of consistency. To top it off, we all have SERIOUS FUN doing it.

Early Teen Karate (ages 12 – 15 years)

A rich time for discovery and often a time of trepidation in one’s life, our early teens find coming to the “dojo” to be a home away from home. Our early teen program encourages students to push themselves, redefining what they thought their limits and capabilities were. Students report feeling more confident and able to communicate and be sure footed. Teens who train at our facility often show an improved sense of self-control, increased discipline, lower stress levels, better physical conditioning, and experience an increased awareness overall. Teens learn about setting personal goals, practice respecting others and oneself, and to lead through example. We work together as to create and find opportunities to help them reach lifelong goals. They step up to their challenging workouts, help encourage others and build lasting friendships that go beyond high school and college.
